This is day four of a four-day event.  Participants must attend all four days in order to successfully complete this course.

This course will prepare participants to make entry into the contaminated ("hot") zone of a hazardous materials release in order to perform rescues, incident evaluation, mitigation and/or containment activities.  Topics covered will include hazardous substance and specific hazard identification, determination of response recommendations and isolation / evacuation distances, responder safety, personal protective equipment (PPE) and garment selection, donning and doffing protective equipment and garments, containment and leak patching techniques, and others.  Training will include both classroom and skills practice.  There will be an end-of-course comprehensive examination.

This course will be conducted by OAI, Inc. instructors.  The course is being hosted by the Kirksville Volunteer Fire Department.

Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a course completion certificate from OAI, Inc. and will be eligible for certification as hazardous materials technicians by their paid or volunteer employer.  Participants will also receive Kentucky fire service training hours and/or Kentucky Board of EMS-approved EMR/EMT continuing education hours, if applicable.

Individuals who are already certified as hazardous materials technicians may attend portions of this course in order to meet their required annual refresher training requirement.
